New Jersey Symphony Orchestra (NJSO) has just released it season of events for 2018 through 2019 and it promises to continue to be ground-breaking must-see music! Xian Zhang, Music Director, and Gabriel Van Aalst, President and CEO, proudly announced a blockbuster season that features a dazzling array of events that appeal to every taste.
How does one grow an audience among all demographics to expose them to classical and contemporary classical music? NJSO’s recipe includes broad community engagement and toward this end, the extremely popular collaboration of NJSO playing live John Williams scores to films like Star Wars’ “A New Hope” and “The Empire Strikes Back” is just the beginning. The season opener in October features Ludwig van Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony and will include a chorus drawn from the surrounding Newark community, with auditions held this summer. The Winter Festival in early 2019 includes stellar soloists, such as renowned soprano Dawn Upshaw, and pianists Emanuel Ax and Daniil Trifonov. The hits keep coming all season with a huge finale planned–Sergei Prokofiev’s “Romeo and Juliet” paired with Sergei Rachmaninoff’s amazing Second Symphony the first full weekend in June.
