Shakespeare Theatre revives its Neil Bartlett adaptation of Charles Dickens “A Christmas Carol” for a wealth of days in December and skip to the bottom now to buy your tickets. You’re back now? Welcome! Read on to learn why you and yours will remember this production for years to come.
Shakespeare Theatre of NJ rounds out its first season with sparkly new Artistic Director Brian Crowe. This iteration of “Carol” is under Paul Mullins expert direction and his cast becomes human Foley artists throughout the course of the play. All but Scrooge are multiple characters and it is a visual and audible feast just right for the Holiday season, whatever the celebration.
We know the story well, and Anthony Marble’s Scrooge is gruff, tough and hard as nails – until he isn’t. We see the gradual transformation like a rose blooming in time-lapse photography. And the ghosts! Celeste Ciulla must change costumes in a revolving door as she is as dour a Marley as can be, as well as many other characters! Emily S. Chang rises as Christmas Past from inside Scrooge’s bed, surprising all of us! She is a lithe, blithe Spirit and deftly prepares the way for her kin. Jeffrey M. Bender was born to play the role of the Christmas Present, and what a gift he is! He inhabits the role with his ebullience and cheer. And Christmas Yet-to-Be, well, you’ll need to see that for yourself!
Andy Paterson is the benighted Cratchit with Gina Lamparella as the fiery Missus. Fiona Robberson is Belle among others and Ty Lane is so fetching as Fred that his Holiday Spirit will spark yours as well. This all-star cast shows the humor and pathos in this classic tale that still has meaning in our jaded present. See it today and remember how the Holidays should feel.
Visit https://www.shakespearenj.org/events/detail/christmas-carol as the last day to see it is December 29, 2024! There is still time to change, time to be, time to love.
