The four-decade-old Lesbian & Gay Big Apple Corps (LGBAC) Marching Band, directed by Marita Begley, will make its debut in Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade®, a virtual, television-only event on November 26, airing nationwide on NBC and Telemundo, from 9 a.m. to noon, in all time zones, announced LGBAC Board of Directors Vice Chair Anna Del Campo, in an email on November 11.
“AMAZING and HISTORIC good news,” Del Campo wrote, continuing, “The Lesbian & Gay Big Apple Corps Marching Band has achieved its greatest milestone: We've been selected to perform in the 2020 Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade®! The Macy's Parade has been our goal through years of applying, and it's been our dream for far longer. Our participation is a big deal, not only for the band and the parade but also for the country and the entire world as we will be the first openly LGBTQ+ band in the event's 96-year history!”
“We've been secretly rehearsing in Harrison, NJ, for weeks,” she confided, adding, “The marching band will be moving and grooving to [ABBA’s] ‘Dancing Queen.’ (We're bringing ALL the gay).”
